Black & White sand beach, hidden on the coconut tree is a famous underwater site on the island.
Located on the west coast between Toyapakeh and Crystal Bay, Gamat Bay is quite small but is one of the few dive sites at Nusa Penida where you don’t have to just ‘go with the flow’ as the bay is quite protected. But, once you head down the steep slope at the mouth, you are again drift diving. The bottom of Gamat Bay is mostly sand, coral patches and bommies. There is a profusion of colourful soft corals, with gorgonians and hard corals (including table corals) everywhere.
These shallow areas are lovely, full of reef fish, some quite rare, commensals, nudibranchs, and could take your whole dive, particularly if you are a photographer (although it can be surgy).
Visibility is usually superb within the bay.
The calm waters of Gamat bay are full of small caves and crevices and the variety of reef fish and invertebrates here are exceptional. Reachable only by boat, the small white sand beach and crystal clear waters here make for excellent snorkelling. Home to an array of brightly coloured reef fish this protected bay is a nursery for all kinds of marine life that flourish in the rich waters of Nusa Penida. Feeding the fish is a very special experience that will be sure to surprise you. In this whirl of fish, fins and colour we can imagine ourselves friends with our fishy companions and feel that we are all part of one big family.
